Products List

Extremely versatile and customizable, our nerve cuff electrodes are hand manufactured by Microprobes for Life Science to extremely precise user-specified configurations. Featuring a classic clamshell design and available in a broad spectrum of sizes from 6 mm all the way down to 56 microns, each cuff is individually tailored with regard to inner electrode metal, size, and positioning, flexible lead length and angle off the cuff, flexible lead metal and encapsulation, and a wide variety of available connector types and configurations including transdermal pedestals and touch-proof connectors. Special connector configurations are also available for tunneling applications where the connector needs to be assembled at the operating table.

Three main classes of cuffs are available: Standard cuffs featuring full-circumference microwire electrodes, X-Wide cuffs featuring full-circumference low-impedance ribbon electrodes for high-intensity stimulation, and Concentric cuffs featuring independently-addressable segmented electrodes for positionable recording and stimulation around the nerve.

  • Fully arbitrary design, with users able to define exact positioning of electrodes and spacings within the cuff to create complex and sophisticated electrode arrangements
  • Cuffs can be optimized for either acute or chronic applications
  • Electrode configurations include full-circumference microwire, segmented concentric microwire, and full-circumference ribbon
  • Broad range of available diameters allowing stable and long-lasting application anywhere from the largest animal sciatic nerve down to tiny rodent cranial nerves
  • Leads can be customized to be thin, lightweight, and flexible, or thick, robust, and breakage-resistant depending on application and implant location
  • Wide variety of connector options including standard banana or touchproof, multichannel pedestal, or user-defined custom mounts
  • Platinum-iridium or 316L stainless steel leads are available for MRI applications
  • Contact count (1-24 electrode sites)
  • Cuff inner diameter (56, 80, 100, 140, 160, 200, 250 microns, 0.3, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 mm)
  • Electrode positioning within the cuff (both inter-contact and contact-to-edge length can be user-defined)
  • Cuff material (implant-grade silicone for inner diameters 0.3 mm or larger, polyimide for inner diameters below 0.3 mm)
  • Electrode material (platinum-iridium microwire, stainless steel microwire, platinum-iridium ribbon)
  • Angle of flexible lead coming off the cuff (parallel, perpendicular, angled, left or right)
  • Sutures can be integrated into most cuff diameters (suture type and thickness can be customized)
  • Flexible lead metal (316L stainless steel or platinum-iridium)
  • Flexible lead encapsulation (bare pre-insulated wire, silicone, polyurethane)
  • Connector type (stripped wire, banana, touch-proof, P1 pedestal, omnetics, or user-defined custom)
  • Ground or reference electrode options available on request
