The Microprobes for Life Science Microelectrode Array (MEA) is an extremely versatile and high performance penetrating neural array with capabilities and customizability far beyond typical trimmed-microwire style arrays. Essentially built as a matrix of etched monopolar electrodes arranged in a custom grid, each electrode in the array is electrochemically sharpened to an extremely fine tapered tip, coated with parylene-C, and exposed to a broad range of available impedances. As the electrodes are populated individually within the array, each electrode can be customized to its own precise length, impedance, and even metal type, allowing endless possibilities for array geometry and functionality.

The design concept allows for a large variety of customizable configurations to cater specifically to the researcher’s application and experimental protocol.

  • Up to 32 penetrating microelectrodes per array
  • The MEA features premium etched monopolar microelectrodes, which are significantly sharper, more rigid, and offer a broader range of impedances than typical trimmed microwire alternatives
  • Each individual electrode within the array can be customized to exacting specifications, including length, metal type, diameter, and tip exposure (impedance)
  • Electrode layout within the array is extremely customizable, and options include row and column count, spacing, and even multi-clustered arrangements
  • Can be configured for either acute or chronic implantation, and flexible cable options are available
  • Custom connector configurations available
  • Available in platinum-iridium or pure iridium, or a mix of the two within the same array
  • Steel-free and non-paramagnetic for MRI
  • Channel count (4-32 channels)
  • Electrode layout (2×2, 3×3, 4×2, 4×4, 8×2, or other custom arrangements)
  • Each individual electrode within the array can be assigned its own custom length, metal, diameter, and exposure/impedance
  • Customizable tip exposures for a broad range of impedances (10 kOhm to 5 MOhm)
  • Microelectrode diameter (75, 125, 225 µm)
  • Electrode pitch/spacing (0.1 mm to 1 mm)
  • Electrode length (1 mm to 40 mm, with each electrode customizable)
  • Electrode material (platinum-iridium or pure iridium, or both within the same array)
  • Fixed connector or flexible cable-mounted connector (length customizable)
  • Connector (all common types and configurations)
  • Ground and reference electrode
