The Microprobes for Life Science Linear Microelectrode Array (LMA) is a deep penetrating robust linear array with a high degree of versatility and customizability compared to similar competing probes on the market. A thick rigid shank and sharp tungsten tip allow it to penetrate tissue repeatedly and reliably, and laser cut apertures allow the independently addressed contacts along the shank to be arbitrarily positioned with essentially limitless flexibility. Helices, multiple columns, clusters, ringed arrangements, and multiple depths are some of many possible contact configurations.

The second generation LMA (LMAv2) features a thin tapered shank tip optimized for small contacts most appropriate for single unit recording. It also features a sharper, thicker tungsten core to improve tissue penetration, reduce insertion trauma, and improve shank buckling and bending resistance.
The design concept allows for a large variety of customizable configurations to cater specifically to the researcher’s application and experimental protocol.

  • Up to 32 independently addressable platinum-iridium contacts per array
  • Robust polyimide and epoxy shank with a sharp tungsten core allow for repeated insertions into deep tissue
  • The Second Generation LMA (LMAv2) features a thin tapered shank most appropriate for small contacts and single unit recording
  • Thicker, sharper tungsten core for improved tissue penetration and buckling/bending resistance
  • Each individual contact within the array can be customized to one of multiple sizes and positioned anywhere along the shank of the array. Positioning is not limited to straight rows and uniform spacing, but can be laid out to exacting custom specifications
  • Can be configured for either acute or chronic implantation, and flexible cable options are available
  • The LMA is available in both single and multi-shank options, and shanks can either be rigidly aligned together or mounted on independent flexible cables
  • Custom connector configurations available
  • Optional steel-free and non-paramagnetic version for MRI
  • Channel count (4-32 channels)
  • Contact layout (linear, multi-columnar, helical, clustered, ringed, or other custom arrangements)
  • Contact diameter (12.5, 15, or 25 um, platinum-iridium)
  • Contacts can be positioned anywhere along or around shank (minimum spacing 75 um)
  • Lower polyimide portion length is customizable (up to 60 mm or longer)
  • Stainless steel extension tube to extend length up to 100 mm or longer (Microfil available for MRI)
  • Single or multi-shank options available
  • Fixed connector or flexible cable-mounted connector (length customizable)
  • Connector (all common types and configurations)
  • Ground and reference electrode
