Introduction
Spike Neuro is proud to announce a collaboration with Alexander Zestos, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Neuroscience at American University, to advance tools for understanding and treating neurological conditions. This partnership, supported by a $1 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), aims to develop innovative dual-function carbon fiber probes capable of simultaneously monitoring neurochemical and electrical brain activity.
Traditional probes have limited research and treatment options by focusing on either neurochemical or electrical signals, but not both. The new carbon fiber probes, which will combine chemical sensing with electrical recording, will offer unparalleled accuracy, durability, and biocompatibility. These tools have the potential to transform the study and treatment of conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, and depression.
Spike Neuro and Prof. Zestos share a vision of bridging the gap between academic discoveries and practical applications. By leveraging scalable production methods, this partnership is poised to make cutting-edge neuroscience technology widely available to researchers and clinicians.
